OVERVIEW
In early January 2022, Oxenfree was given the opportunity to create a cinematic brand story with the American Public Power Association. They are focused on community-owned utilities that power over 2,000 towns and cities across the nation. We worked with them over the next few months to ensure we are bringing their vision to life and showing all the incredible work they pour into the community. In May, our team took a trip to Kansas and shot in Orlando to show the true power of community-owned utilities.
PROBLEM
APPA wanted to express the benefits of not-for-profit public power to the community. They are passionate in that they believe cities around the United States should get more involved in the decision-making that goes into their public power. APPA wants to continue to share its resources and teach people the importance of preserving public ownership of their utilities.
SOLUTION
The Directors at Oxenfree, Ben and Christian collaborated with APPA in multiple Creative Development meetings to determine how to unify an audience around public power. During this process, we needed to connect big cities and small towns to truly express the impact power plays in all our lives. We wanted to highlight APPA’s vision and keep the project community driven with local representation. We identified interviewees that show a range of people and their individualized experience with public power. We established questions that highlight the benefits of public power being low-cost, reliable, and community-driven.
RESULT
We were able to create a Brand Story that emphasized the importance of public power and the direct correlation it plays in our everyday lives. We are proud of the cinematic experience we created that shows the role public power plays for different people in a multitude of different ways. We wanted to emphasize the normality of expecting power and the way it ties into daily routines, emphasizing APPA's reliability and trustworthiness.
