OVERVIEW
As the COVID-19 pandemic started to slow down, and small businesses started to reopen their doors, our friend Jim Hobart at Macbeth Studio reached out to us about getting involved with their Give Back project.
The project provided photography or videography services to help tell the stories of any non-profit, not-for-profit, or small business in the Greater Orlando Area that has been affected by the pandemic, with the goal of helping to rebuild their businesses during this incredibly challenging time.
When Jim reached out to Oxenfree to provide some assistance to Zac Alfson, Director of The Milk District, the team jumped at the chance to support the businesses around them.
PROBLEM
The Milk District is a non-profit organization associated with the Orlando Main Streets program with the mission to enhance and preserve the small business community while nurturing the arts, culture, and ongoing development of their creative district.
Zac's vision for the project was to feature a few of the members of his district through photo and video by interviewing the business owner about how the members and residents of the area rallied to support one another during the pandemic.
Restaurants & businesses were opening back up and they needed to communicate that they were wide open, safe spaces for customers to return to.
SOLUTION
After our meeting with Zac to learn more about how photo and video could support this project, Oxenfree presented a concept called "The Milk District: Tough As Nails" that would feature 6 business owners of the district in 60-second videos accompanied by 10-20 high-quality photography of their products or services, along with an additional 60-second compilation video to be used by the district itself.
In order to achieve this vision, Oxenfree scheduled a single day shoot, spending 45-60 minutes at each location to capture all the assets needed to execute the project. It whirlwind of a production day, but it was amazing to visit with each business owner, hear their stories about the challenges they've overcome, and how The Milk District really supported them throughout every step.
RESULT
What was laid out in pre-production came to life for Zac and his team at The Milk District. We were able to deliver all the videos and photos that were initially requested, and both Zac and all the business owners were thrilled to receive the assets to be used across their social media channels and demonstrate their gratitude to the community while also highlighting the safety protocols they had in place while operating.
We were also super excited to hear from Zac that the campaign was submitted for a Main Street of Florida Award, and won!
Working with Zac and the business owners was an amazing experience, and it always feels great to give back to our Orlando community we love so dearly.
