5 Best Video Marketing Tips To Put Into Practice

There's no doubt that video marketing is becoming more and more popular. Every company is looking to boost their online presence, and time and time again video is the key to doing so.

On average, adults in the United States watch 5.5 hours of video content EACH DAY!

Your company wants to be included in that five hours, but how do you make sure it reaches the right person and stands out from the rest?

1. Create an overarching goal

Making videos for the sake of making videos is fine, but keeping a goal in mind helps curate these videos without wasting time on frivolous content. What do you aim to accomplish with your videos?

In school we often learn the 5 W's:

  • Who?

  • What?

  • Where?

  • When?

  • Why?

The steps to creating your goal are similar. You need to ask:

  • Who is your target audience?

  • What do we want to accomplish?

  • Where will the audience be viewing the video?

  • When will audience be viewing the video?

  • Why would anyone want to learn more?

Once these questions are answered you can create 1-2 concise sentences that can be shared with your team that will be at the forefront of all future conversations.

2. Identify what turns leads into clients

The first step in identifying what turns leads into clients, is understanding where in the process you lose a lead's interest.

You need to know what closes a sale, and then you can move to the next step.

3. Create awesome videos

Now that your strategy is defined, you can move on to the video!

Whether you're making tutorials, like our editing workflow series, or Brand Stories, the most engaging videos are of great quality. We recently wrote a blog post about why companies should have Brand Stories.

How do you make great content?

Your goal informs many of the choices that go into making your video. With this in mind, you must determine the length of the video. Did you know:

  • Videos shorter than 90 seconds see an average rate of retention at 59%

  • Videos over 30 minutes only retain 14% of viewers

Obviously the goal of these two videos are different.

The 90 second video aims to quickly entertain the viewer. While the 30 minute video might be informational and teach the viewer how to do something.

As the age old saying goes, Keep It Simple, Stupid.

No one wants to watch a video with a lengthy description or title. The video itself should also be simple in content. As stated earlier, 90 second videos retain more viewers. You don't want to overload your audience in those 90 seconds.

No matter the video, if the content is simple and entertaining the more likely you are to maintaining the audience.

4. Create a call to action

Making sure your call to action is available to your viewer the second they see the video creates retention.

Just like YouTube personalities asking audiences to "like and subscribe," you should be asking your audiences to do something that relates to your goal. It could be as simple as "check out our website" or "share this video with your friends."

5. SEO Optimization

SEO Optimization...Can't live without it.

We all are constantly climbing the uphill battle of SEO optimization. The best way to keep your SEO high is to be consistent in your posts. Use keywords you know your audience would search or click on. There's so many videos on the internet that could be seen, do the research about the keywords you should be using to attract the right audience.
